Last hike and local festival of mOving cows to winter Pasture complete with bands aNd parade9/30/2017 we took the gondola up, climbed higher, scrambling over rocks and avoiding ice on the trail before returning to town for the festival of moving the cows to winter passture. This celebration included a parade with dressed up cattle, a running of the cows, food, local yummy cheeses and music.
Sesto (sexton in German) is a wonderful mix of old-world agriculture and hiking/skiing tourism. We marveled at the cheese making, the milk cows, the hat drying and the hoouss brhhaat are half barn. Farmers in the field turning hay by hand, work horses and hand plows. So quaint. we actually got more mileage walking the pavement in the town of Cortina and then waliking back to San Vito de Cardena than we have hiking. We walked two miles around the town after catching a ride and then nine miles along the walking and biking trails back. We also saw the white river, from the glacial till and the Olympic stadium with the ski jump from the 1950s. Tom got some hiking boots while I got some things for the grandkids. Still debating on the lederhosen for Mark. We then attended church and celebrated Pay's birthday at the hotel. Nice day. The morning was raining but our walk back was fantastic with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains as we wandered in and out of small towns. |
